The former Bidwell Metals site at Clandown has received approval for the building of 28 dwellings, a community building and public open space, following last week’s Development Control Committee at the Guildhall.
The mixed development has been revised significantly, reducing the number of dwellings from an original figure of 49. It also offers to sympathetically redevelop the old school and warehouse on site.
Cllr Bryan Organ moved the B&NES Planning Officer’s recommendation to permit the application, saying it was “a vast improvement on the site overall and at long last, some real progress is being made.” This was seconded by Cllr Will Sandry, who said it was a “thoughtful development, with generous parking provision.” He said that residential use would be better than the current status of the land, whilst Cllr Liz Hardman echoed this, stating that she supported the brownfield site redevelopment, but thought the parking provision “disappointing.”
With conditions added in regard to retaining walls on site, the application was unanimously approved.
