Residents are being asked what housing should replace apartment blocks in Radstock that are set to be torn down amid fire safety concerns.

Housing Association Curo says it wants the community to help shape plans for a future development on the site of the four Walnut Buildings.

All 113 tenants were moved out of the properties after a survey showed that cladding on the 32 flats contained potentially flammable polystyrene.

Curo said the scope of the work needed was “far beyond the value or effectiveness of the properties” and submitted plans to demolish them.

The buildings are set to be taken down one by one from mid April. The work is expected to take four weeks.

Curo Chief Executive Victor da Cunha said: “We really want to hear from local people about the future of this site and understand what’s important to them. We know that news about the redevelopment of Walnut Buildings has been well received by the community and we’re looking forward to working alongside local residents.

“This is an opportunity to create some good quality, modern homes which meet local needs and integrate well within the existing neighbourhood.”

Residents are being asked if they would prefer houses or flats and how they prioritise issues like parking, the appearance of the area and energy efficiency.
