PLANS to build more than 100 new homes on the edge of Haydon have sparked strong concerns from residents, who say the scale of the development would transform the small hamlet and place pressure on local infrastructure.

Nearly 100 residents attended a public meeting at the Haydon Cue Club on Tuesday, September 16 to discuss the planning application submitted by the Silverwood Partnership to build up to 115 new homes on the field adjacent to Grovewood Road in Haydon.

Haydon is a hamlet of around 245 homes, and the proposed development would increase its size by nearly half, marking a significant change to the scale of the community.

Residents raised concerns about the loss of agricultural land, arguing brownfield sites should be prioritised. They also highlighted Haydon’s limited amenities and poor public transport, and questioned the claim that Radstock’s facilities are a five to 10 minute walk away, noting the steep hill and difficulties for families and disabled people.

Radstock Town Council will be considering the application on Tuesday, September 23, at 9.30am in the Trinity Hub: www.radstock-tc.gov.uk/council-information/council-meetings/72-planning-local-development-committee
