The Green Party has selected Fay Whitfield as the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for North East Somerset, in the event of a by-election or snap General Election.

Whitfield, a Heritage postgraduate student who studies in North East Somerset, has pledged to “give a voice to everyone, including young people, in politics.” She has already been selected as the Green Party candidate for Lambridge in Bath, where she grew up and currently resides.

Fay said: “Many decisions made by politicians today will affect young people the most. We have eleven years to combat climate change, and the under-eighteens who currently have no political say will be the adults who will face the consequences of our decisions now. The same applies to Brexit – those currently under the age of twenty who didn’t get a vote in the 2016 referendum will have to live with a decision they did not make.”

“Jacob Rees-Mogg has done nothing but undermine the Government in pursuit of his own extreme Brexit agenda. The ensuing divisions have damaged both his party and us as a country. A policy of ever-increasing financial and economic growth at the expense of the third world and the environment goes to the heart of why we need a radical shake up in our politics.”
