The Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North East Somerset, Westfield Councillor, Robin Moss, has spoken out after residents angrily reported someone campaigning, seemingly on behalf of the party yesterday.

All General Election campaigning was suspended on Tuesday, after the horrific terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena on Monday evening which killed 22 people, including children.

He said: "I’m sorry to have to get in touch while we have a suspension of General Election campaigning as a mark of respect to the victims of the Manchester atrocity.

"Unfortunately, a man has been seen walking around Radstock carrying a ’Vote Labour’ sandwich board (with the name of the 2015 candidate).

"Understandably, this has angered some local residents, who believe this is ’official’ campaigning. Quite rightly, they expect all politicians to adhere to the suspension of electioneering.

"Can I stress that this has nothing to do with myself and the Labour campaign. I suspended all campaign activity first thing on Tuesday morning, in line with all other political parties and candidates.

"This person was acting illegally and without my permission; the Police have been informed and are investigating.

"I understand they have been looking for this individual. If and when he is identified, I will be looking for appropriate action to be taken. The Police and the courts take a dim view of attempts to subvert the democratic process.

"This was an attempt to discredit my campaign and it also discredits all politicians and the political process."
