Missed debates in Midsomer Norton and Peasedown St John on whether or not the area should have an Elected Mayor?
Another has been organised, this time for Radstock, on Tuesday, 8th March at the Methodist Church, from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m., where visitors can hear from both sides of the argument. Please enter the church using the entrance from Fortescue Road.
Stephen Taylor, Secretary of the Mayor for B&NES Campaign, on behalf of the ‘Yes Campaign’ and Robin Moss, Labour Councillor and party group leader, on behalf of the ‘No Campaign’ will speak at the hustings event, chaired by Simon Allen.
Over 140,000 residents will be given the chance to vote on whether they would like to replace the current Leader-model of Local Government, with an Elected Mayor on Thursday, 10th March, during a district-wide polling day. The Referendum was triggered by the collection of over 9,000 signatures from the Yes Campaign who would like a change to the present system. Should it result in a ‘Yes’ vote, an election is expected in October.
Following our feature in last week’s paper, anyone still undecided on whether to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ can view our online video, which interviews some of those for and against, at: http://ow.ly/YvO4c
