Chairman of B&NES Council, Rob Appleyard, didn't take his trunks with him when he visited Paulton Pool on Saturday, 10th November. Instead, he was given a tour by Paulton Parish Council of the facilities and its recent addition of solar panels to the pool roof, following an £80,000 refurbishment which saw the facility reopen in January last year.

Paulton Pool now benefits from new windows and a newly-strengthened roof to accommodate the new solar panels, to generate electricity and thermal panels, which will heat the water to a constant temperature of 31 degrees. The improvements have cost over £35,000, which has been paid for by a grant from Sport England, part of the Olympic legacy. The pool was closed for four weeks whilst the work was being carried out, but is now fully open.

Paulton Pool first opened in 1975 and was built by members of the community. The facility is a registered charity and works closely with the local infant and junior schools, holding a wide range of exercise classes, swimming sessions and water safety courses.
