Priston village centre was awash with colour, music and dance as the tenth Priston Festival took place. “Such a variety of excellent performances!” said a village resident.
The main village green stage showcased a dozen different soloists and bands, and there was also a smaller, equally busy, stage in the café area. Not to mention workshops and gigs in the pub, church and village hall and a children’s tent. On the
Sunday, over seventy morris dancers thronged the village green.
The festival has grown over the years, and now attracts people from a wide area – even getting a mention on the Cerys Matthews show on BBC Radio 6 Music this year.
It truly is a community effort, with around a hundred of the villagers and others being involved one way or another – setting up, making cakes, stewarding etc. Without their help and support, the festival could not take place.
The bands are drawn from a wider area and many of the names can be seen on posters for much larger festivals. Owain Jones, the programmer, said “We are thrilled with the quality of the bands who want to come and play at Priston Festival.”
