Ever wondered what happens to the 5p Tesco charges for their bags? Well, they run a scheme, ‘Bags of Help’, in which they save all the money and donate it to local charities twice a year.
Purnell Sports Football Club, Purnell Sports Youth FC and Purnell Cricket Club (Purnell Sports Group) have been chosen to receive funding between £8,000 – £12,000, but the amount the club receives will be dependent on local support.
Voting takes place from now until 6th March and Tesco customers will be asked to vote in store for one of three projects, with the most number of votes receiving £12,000.
Purnell Sports Group offer football and cricket from Under-7s up to adults at Purnell Sports and Social Club in Paulton, with football and cricket coaching, training and matches run throughout the year. The clubs are all run by volunteers and are self-funding.
The club’s tractors and mowers are very old and are now no longer able to cope with the amount of mowing that needs to be done to keep the pitches playable, so the teams are working together to purchase a tractor and mower to be shared
between the three clubs.
