Pondsmead Nursing and Residential Home in Oakhill were proud to

deliver personal care to Peter Williams, known as PeeJay.

Peter had a fascinating story – he was the man to beat on both the circuits and at the TT, where he won the 1973 Formula 750 speed race at a record speed on his designed Norton Villiers Triumph (NVT), John Player Special (JPS) (pictured).

Peter led The John Player team, where he won Podium place on the Orpin Greeves in the 1965 MGP. Another successful win was at the 1971 Ulster GP.

Of the 4,000 spectators at Donington Park’s tribute race on Sunday, 1st August was some of the Pondsmead team to pay tribute to Peter.

The Peter Williams trophy was presented to the race winner by his family. Peter left a legacy of design, including the PW3 cam, magnesium cast ‘Wagon Wheels’, disc brakes and Monocoque frames. Peter also designed an electric bike that came fifth in the 2010 TT.

Peter spent his last years at Pondsmead Care Home and was very popular with the staff there.

Peter was a legend, a gentleman and adored by many. He was also witty and funny. He will be forever in the care home’s thoughts as he raced into their hearts.
