Radstock-based Arts charity, Creativity Works, has teamed up with Somer Valley FM to create a series of radio shows highlighting the benefits of creativity on mental health and wellbeing – with the first of the series to be broadcast this weekend.
The episode, called Voices of Creativity Works, will be broadcast on Saturday, 15th June at 1 p.m., and will be repeated on Monday, 17th June at 1 .m.
Writing Space, a peer-led group that meets weekly in central Bath and is supported by Creativity Works, went into the Somer Valley FM studios earlier this year, and with the support and encouragement of Dom Chambers, Somer Valley FM’s Director and radio host, and Philippa Forsey from Creativity Works, members, Justin, Dee and Irene shared some of their recent work and what makes Writing Space important to them. Justin said of the experience: “We talked about why Writing Space is such a great place, how it helps, and shared some encouraging words to anyone who may like to come along in the future.
“It was rather nerve racking at times, but we got through it! Another member, Irene, a local resident, did a wonderful talk all about her experiences in the war and with post-traumatic stress, and how being part of writing space has helped.”
Somer Valley FM is part of a national project called Health FM, which explores the links between broadcasting and enhancing physical and mental well-being.
