Radstock Co-operative Society members voted to support YMCA Mendip as one of their two chosen charities for the year at the Annual General Meeting on 14th June 2017.

Every year, the Society offers members who attend the AGM the opportunity to vote on the causes or community projects they would like the Society to support for the year.

YMCA Mendip are delighted to have been chosen as a nominated charity of the Radstock Co-operative Society for 2017. A shortlist of charities were chosen by the Board and presented to members to vote on in June. As a result, YMCA Mendip were selected as a recipient of a £1,100 donation and further support over the course of the coming year.

Jeremy Fricker, the Society’s President, and Don Morris from the Radstock Co-operative Society, visited the team at YMCA Mendip to present the cheque to Senior Fundraiser Karen Collins.

To be considered for the financial donation, applications were to contain relevant background information relating to the charity and details of the positive impact on the local community. YMCA Mendip deliver a range of services, with an emphasis on homelessness, housing, youth work provision and information, advice and guidance.

A spokesperson for the Society said, “It is important that young people have available to them the support mechanisms and services that are aimed at their specific needs. The Mendip YMCA is particularly focused on tackling the issue of housing and homelessness which is becoming more prevalent amongst the young as they battle with social exclusion, mental health problems and financial difficulties.

“We admire the work of the Mendip YMCA in bringing much-needed help and support to individuals within our trading communities.”

This year, YMCA Mendip are celebrating 125 years of supporting young people in our community. To mark this achievement, a celebratory event is being held at Wells Cathedral on Saturday, 21st October at 2 p.m.

Entry to the service is free and open to everyone. If you would like to attend, please send your RSVP to: [email protected].
