Nurses at Bath RUH Children’s Ward accepted a cheque for almost £3,000 from local Western Power Distribution staff recently.

Engineers and office staff took to the road with the aim of raising funds for two local children affected by spinal muscular atrophy, who needed specialist equipment, like car seats and wheelchairs.

Sadly, the young brother and sister passed away within weeks of each other before the charity cycle ride could take place.

Steve Greenman, from Western Power Distribution, who knew the family and organised the Radstock Riders’ charity cycle ride with his colleagues, explained: “The family were keen we continued with the event and agreed the funds raised should go to Bath RUH Children’s Ward and the SMA Trust.

“Tinged with sadness, there was a great spirit among the group during the ride.

“Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we hope this donation will make a difference to all the children who have to stay in hospital.”
