Over £3,600 has been raised by a brave team of skydivers and an intrepid bunch of locals, who dressed up as Star Wars characters to pay tribute to late teen, Lucia Robinson, and to raise vital funds for charities important to her over the Bank Holiday weekend.
This was the fourth ‘Railway Rocks’ event, held at the Railway pub in Radstock, which invites local bands and friends along to raise money. This year the event raised just over £1,000, with an extra £2,600 added by local skydivers, who completed one of Lucia’s wishes in tribute.
One of the organisers, Jo Cullen, told The Journal: “It was an amazing day – the thunder and rain stayed away and we had sunshine (we think Lucia shone for us).
“We appreciate every single person who gave up their time to help organise and play in the bands. The bar staff and BBQ servers from Luckington Carnival Club worked so hard and of course, a very big thank you to Angie, Colin, Tammy and Sheldon at the Railway.
“The bands were brilliant, as always, and along with Zero Hour, Parfanon, VPR, The One Tones and Up Your Brass, we were joined by Escvpade and an acoustic set.
“We had Storm Troopers, Princess Leias, Darth Vaders and BB8. The fancy dress winners were chosen by Melina, Lucia’s mum, with the winners being Alec and Katie Wedmore.
“We received many prizes for our raffle and had so much support from local businesses, which we are so thankful for.
“It’s wonderful that we can all work together and carry on with Lucia’s amazing fundraising.”
