In a venture that would make Paddington Bear proud, a couple who were awarded MBEs for their charity work have continued to raise funds for Paulton Hospital, despite retiring from the village charity shop in

January. The Wynnes originally took the shop on in their first retirement from Fry’s, in Keynsham, where they first met, and, on their second retirement, the pair have continued to raise funds by making marmalade!

Alongside the successful tombola that the couple have run for years and raising thousands of pounds in the process, Terry and Caroline Wynne have been selling marmalade through Café Bombero, in Paulton’s Hub, creating quite some demand! As well as this, Caroline has been busy knitting baby clothes for the maternity ward at Southmead Hospital.

Since their retirement, they have so far raised £2,438.

Terry says: “We wish to thank the local community for their continued support – since closing our very successful charity shop for Paulton Hospital and retiring (for the second time!), we have quietly continued our fundraising work.

“Over the past ten months, we have carried on running a tombola at various events across the area, as fundraising for Paulton Hospital still plays a big part in our lives.

“A very special thank you to Zoe and her helpers at Café Bombero for selling the marmalade, to Lyn Madden, for all of her help and to the customers who have been buying the marmalade and supporting the tombola.

“With Christmas coming, we’ll be making pickled eggs, which will be for sale at the café. Funds raised will be given to the League of Friends after Paulton Hospital’s Christmas Fayre on Saturday, 1st December, which takes place between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.

“We’ll be there with our tombola, so please come along and support us!”
