Midsomer Norton South Station was always famous for its garden displays, and volunteers at the station have kept up the tradition, but with more garden and flower areas. This month, the arts side of the station will be even better, with displays from artists from the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership.Volunteer workers at the station have been meeting local students to chat about the railway and the work around the station. This has led to some innovative ideas about making sculptures of lost items around the station.

During the weekend of the 18th and 19th June, which is the start of the Midsomer Norton Arts Festival, visitors will be able to visit the station to see the artwork of Norton Hill GCSE students and children from Camerton and Peasedown St John Primary Schools. An added attraction will be musical entertainment accompanying the displays.

The Midsomer Arts Festival which runs from 18th June until 25th June is being organised by Martyn Plant, Midsomer Norton Community Trust trustee and Art Department Head at Norton Hill School.

He says: “I am delighted by the response from the volunteers at the station. We were welcomed enthusiastically and our students were able to get some good ideas. It is very pleasing that the grant from the Bath Theatre creative fund has been put towards such a valuable and rewarding project.

“More artwork can be seen as part of the Midsomer Arts Festival at the Hollies Garden in Midsomer Norton High Street, all along the High Street, and other venues in Radstock and the surrounding area.”
