The Aunt of little Harmonie-Rose, who at just ten months old was given less than a 10% chance of survival, having been struck with meningitis B and leaving her as a quadruple amputee, has spoken out about her brave niece, and how her attitude has helped change her own life.

Hannah Hall has lost over five stone in weight and is in training for the Bath Half Marathon in just a few weeks’ time, to help raise money for the charity, Meningitis Now. Hannah will also be part of an effort to attempt the Three Peaks challenge in June.

Now, at four-years-old, Harmonie’s beautiful spirit inspires everyone following her journey, which has seen her taking her first steps and getting used to new unicorn prosthetics and a glittery pink wheelchair, all helped through funds raised by the Hope 4 Harmonie campaign, which saw around £240,000 raised for her future. Harmonie’s family are now passionate campaigners for better vaccination programmes and raising awareness of the devastating disease. The Meningitis B vaccine was introduced to the immunisation programme for all new-borns by the Government in 2015.

In a recent BBC West interview, Hannah said: “She’s saved my life. I want her to be proud and inspire her to keep going herself.”

Hannah has set up a JustGiving page to support her challenges, and with the funds raised, enabling Meningitis Now to carry out their valuable work. Via her page, Hannah says: ‘At the time, the medical professionals recommended switching off Harmonie’s life support. This course of action, they advised, would be the best option, given their prognosis of our poor princess.

‘I was amazed at the strength, resilience and sheer determination of such a tiny baby. Harmonie is my very brave lioness.

‘I want to demonstrate to Harmonie and my own children that in life, anything is possible. There is no such word as ‘can’t’. If you have dreams and aspirations in life, hard work and determination can make them achievable. The sky is the limit.

‘When Harmonie was first poorly, we were told that she would never walk, talk, laugh, have emotions, see, read, communicate – that she would be a brain-damaged quadruple amputee with no quality of life. These predications couldn’t be further from the truth. Harmonie does all of these things and more; she leaves us incredulous on a daily basis with new skills learnt, her remarkable intelligence and a mischievious sense of humour.

‘It’s fair to say that Harmonie is probably responsible for saving my life, or giving me back many years. I imagine she has saved countless other lives with her story, and the ‘Hope 4 Harmonie’ campaign.

‘Meningitis Now does wonderful things for families devastated by the effects of meningitis. The charity invests in research, provides support, campaigns and fundraises. No child should suffer as Harmonie did.’

Hannah and her partner, Harley, will be running the Bath Half on 4th March. She says: ‘The Hope 4 Harmonie’ support from Bath and beyond never went unnoticed, touching and moving us during a time of desperation. The kindness and generosity of others really did bring us through very dark days. To this day, their efforts are so very much appreciated.’
