Eleven-year-old Madison Tombs is preparing for the descent of her life, as she plans to abseil twice the height of Big Ben to help raise funds for her primary school.
Not content with preparing for the move to secondary school and end of year exams, Madi, who is currently in her last year at Shoscombe Primary School, has also decided to undertake the descent at Avon Gorge on Sunday, 19th April.
She said: "I am moving to secondary school in September and really want to give something back to my primary school, as they have given me so much since I started, seven years ago. This is an amazing challenge."
Madi is hoping to raise £2,500 for upgraded IT equipment and iPads to help pupils with the changing curriculum. The fundraising is in association with FOSSA, a community that raises money to support Shoscombe School.
Talking about her challenge, Madi said: "I have done a lot of indoor climbing, so am quite used to being off the ground, but this is much higher than anything I have experienced before, so is a real challenge. So, please give generously."
Amanda Downes, Deputy Head at Shoscombe Primary School, said: "We are all very proud and inspired by Madi, as she has shown great initiative in planning the abseil to fundraise for our school. It is a very courageous thing to do and both the staff and children at Shoscombe School are in awe of her bravery. As we are a small school, we have always made great use of any money raised by our really supportive Friends of Shoscombe School Association and to think that Madi is doing this for the benefit of the school is so humbling. We wish her the very best of luck."
