The ninth Seedy Saturday, the locally-loved event dedicated to gardening, growing and community activities, was bustling with growers at all stages and ages at Timsbury Conygre Hall on Saturday, 10th March.
300 visitors attended, despite the weather’s best efforts, to browse and buy their annual gardening supplies from a wide range of seeds, potatoes and plants, including heritage and organic varieties from Pennard Plants and Beans and Herbs,
as well as purchase local produce and handmade gifts.
Community displays and expert talks gave visitors a chance to find out about local events and initiatives, children got crafty with activities organised by The Cam Valley Arts Trail, and the kitchen café – sponsored by The Connies – was the perfect place for chatting with other gardeners over a slice of home-made cake and a cup of tea to top off the day.
Sam Ross, event organiser, said: “It was great to see so many new and familiar faces undeterred by the heavy showers, swapping seeds and getting their growing season off to a flying start. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to run this year’s event, the stallholders who attended, the generous support from our sponsors, and the continued interest from the local community, without whom Seedy Saturday wouldn’t continue to grow and thrive.
“Next year will be our tenth anniversary, and we are planning our biggest event yet! It will be a real community event involving people from as many of the surrounding villages as possible, including local craft and garden-based businesses.
“We wish everyone a good year of growing, and don’t forget to save your seeds to bring to Seedy Saturday next year on 9th March, 2019 at Timsbury Conygre Hall.”
