Back in March, we reported on a brave team of locals who were going to fulfil Hermington teenager, Lucia Robinson’s wish to complete a skydive – in memory of her, but also to help raise money for the charity she founded, Go Blue.

Due to weather conditions, it has taken until now for all of the team to make the big jump. Mel Parfitt, Andrew Pack, Michelle Targett, John Wedmore, Lisa and Courtney Cullen, Sean Wedmore, Sheldon Gould and Amy Rotherham faced dizzying heights in aid of charities close to Lucia’s heart; Bristol Children’s Hospital, the Teenage Cancer Trust, CLIC Sargent, The Rainbow Trust and Children’s Hospice South West and look to be on track to have raised around £2,600, which will be added to the grand total of this weekend’s Bank Holiday Railway Rocks event, which is the fourth year the local pub in Radstock has run the fundraiser.

One of the organisers of the event, Joanne Cullen, said: “Some of the skydivers were braver than others and did twists and turns coming down, while others chose to just relax and take in the beautiful scenery and drift in.

“There were mixed emotions and thoughts about the skydive. One said it was amazing and if he could jump again right away he would. One said she was glad she had done it, but wouldn’t want to do it again, and another was sick when she landed, but said it was amazing!

“I am so proud of them all and cannot thank them enough.”

The skydive has been in planning since last year’s Railway Rocks event, which kicks off this Sunday, 27th May, with live music from 1.30 p.m. – 8 p.m. As Lucia was a huge Star Wars fan, the Railway is becoming a Jedi Bar for the day, with optional Star Wars fancy dress. As well as appearances from local bands, The Venezuelan Pig Rustlers, Parfanon, the Zero Hour, the One Tones and Up Your Brass, there will be a barbecue and fundraising raffle with lots of prizes donated by generous local businesses. Everyone is welcome to come along on the day and support the cause!
