The opening talk in the Midsomer Norton Society's Autumn Season will be the History of G. Prior and Co., Mineral Water Manufacturers of Midsomer Norton, at 7.30 p.m., on Thursday, 25th September, in the main Assembly Room at the Town Hall.

Priors was a well-known local business, supplying many of the local public houses, hotels and residents across the district with mineral water and a wide range of other cordials and beverages. Founded at Killings Knap, on the road to Stratton, in the nineteenth century, Gilbert Prior worked there before buying the business and moving it to Midsomer Norton in 1902. The talk will explore the rich history of the local Prior family which ran the business in its heyday, until its eventual closure in 1970.

The Society is encouraging local residents to bring along old bottles and memorabilia and would like to hear from anyone who either worked at Priors or has memories of the business.

This opening talk will also see the return of the Midsomer Norton Society to its original home in the main Assembly Room at the Town Hall, where slides for the talk will be projected for the first time on the new 19ft x 8ft screen and with improved sound and a hearing loop in place.

Tickets are available on the door, non-members are welcome. For further details, ring: 07530 042627 or visit: http://www.midsomernortonsociety.co.uk">www.midsomernortonsociety.co.uk
