The Ramblers have launched a new walking initiative, ‘Walk Your Way,’ which is designed to encourage people who have walked in the countryside during lockdown to explore their local areas in more detail.
To this end they are providing ‘Walking Inspiration Packs’ for different parts of England and Wales, which can be downloaded from the Ramblers’ website: www.ramblers.org.uk
In order to encourage local walkers to become involved in this project, the Somer Valley Group will shortly be expanding the number of walks that they undertake. The group currently has a membership of approximately eighty members and draws its membership from the Midsomer Norton and Paulton areas, along with the surrounding villages and parishes, including the Cam Valley and much of the Chew Valley.
Walks generally take place on Sundays and Wednesdays but we will be shortly introducing some Monday walks as a result of this initiative. Our aim is to introduce people to walking for pleasure with companionship and to gauge the level of interest that there might be in additional midweek walks on a day when not many other organisations seem to advertise walks.
Whilst the majority of our walks are in the local area, other walks have taken place further afield and the group has walked some long distance routes and parts of others such as the Cotswold Way, the Limestone Link, the Monarch’s Way and the Palladian Way. In the past we have also walked on Exmoor and the North Wessex Downs.
We welcome walkers of all ages and if you are interested in joining any of our walks please contact our Walks Organiser or our Secretary.
Our walks programme is updated regularly on our website and if you fancy a walk with other like-minded people please contact us. We would be happy to see you and would make you thoroughly welcome.
Our website is: www.somervalleyramblers.org.uk and details of officer’s email addresses and phone numbers are shown under the contacts heading. Please get in touch – we would love to hear from you.
