Midsomer Quilting, based at the site of Norton Green Garden Centre, Chilcompton, will be embarking upon its 25th exhibition over Easter, thanks to a chance encounter of two quilters who met in South Africa.

Sheena Norquay and Gillian Travis, both well known quilters and teachers in their own right, met last summer for the first time, realising that they had been quilting for some forty years. Both have exhibited and taught all over the world, but decided to put together their work in a joint exhibition – choosing the Chilcompton venue. It is entitled, “Is it really forty years?”

Last week, the proprietors were hanging the work with great care, with the exhibition opening last Friday. It includes a varied amount of work in two contrasting styles, showing off the individuality of each quilter and using different mediums – from shoes to games, flowers, dolls, gloves and shoes, as well as the more traditional quilted pieces, a few of which are for sale.

The exhibition is running this week, up to and including Easter Monday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., however, it will be closed on Easter Sunday. There is free admission and easy access and parking.

The next exhibition is due to take place in August, with entries for the December 12x12 competition already beginning to come in. Every year, many of the quilts at this exhibtion go into a silent auction which raises money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
