Photography students from Norton Radstock College will be showing the public just how creative they can be with their cameras when they unveil an exhibition of their work next month.
The doors will open to the four-day show at the college's Centurion Vocational Centre, in Midsomer Norton, on Tuesday, 1st July, with all welcome to enjoy the images.
The photos on display have been taken by students from the Photography Diploma Level 3 and Photography Extended Diploma Level 3 courses and demonstrate a wide range of skills developed as part of their studies.
The Norton Radstock College Summer Exhibition will include beautiful landscapes, striking portraits and skilful studio shots, as well as images digitally altered to add an element of fantasy.
One such image is the photo being used by the students on posters to publicise the exhibition, in which a girl reading a book appears to be floating in mid-air, one of a series created by 18-year-old Shannon Eeles, an Extended Diploma student, from Temple Cloud.
Faye Griffiths, Course Coordinator for Photography, is in her first year at the college and has worked with the students to develop courses and projects relating to the photographs in the exhibition. "I'm so proud of all the students taking part. The quality of work this year has been extremely high and we have all come together as a team to put on the exhibition. Myself, Joseph Wooltorton, and our technician and tutor, Vik Martin, have been helping students mount and hang their work ready for the opening."
Twenty-year-old Joseph is also an Extended Diploma student at Norton Radstock College and is one of the organisers of the exhibition. He said: "As part of the Extended Diploma course, we focus on the commercial side of photography and what it is like to work in the industry, as well as the technical skills we need as photographers.
"Organising this exhibition is not only a great chance to show our work to family, friends and the public, it is also valuable experience in itself. There will be a great range of styles and skills on show and I think visitors will be hugely impressed by the quality of work produced by the college's students."
Images taken by Midsomer Norton Sixth Form A level Photography students will also be shown at the exhibition.
A private showing of the exhibition will be held for invited guests on June 30th, before the show is opened to the public on Tuesday, July 1st, when it runs until Friday, July 4th, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Centurion Vocational Centre, Charlton Lane, Midsomer Norton.
