Volunteers are busy preparing for the grand re-opening of Midsomer Norton Station on May 22nd and 23rd.

The gardens are looking lovely and the mini buffet is ready to go with hot drinks and snacks; the train crews and signalling team have also been busy undertaking a number of refresher days following their long break from regular running. A series of five refresher days have been organised, to ensure everyone can take part in a Covid secure way. Each refresher day allows a crew (Driver, Second man and Guard) to re-visit and practice all the protocols and processes that keep the trains running smoothly. Looking at the happy smiling faces of Driver, Matt Cornborough; Second man, Steve Thornton and Guard, Steve Corke on their Refresher Day, it looks like they really enjoyed getting their hands dirty, and can’t wait to be welcoming visitors back to the station!

Meanwhile, the crew were busy training up in the signal box – Chris Ross was putting trainee signalman, Harry McConnell through his paces. One of the attractions of being a volunteer at the station is the training received.

Volunteers in all departments receive training, not only in skills for the job but safety at work on an active railway line.

If you think you would like to work here come along to any of the events days and say you would like to get involved.

Watch out for news of our Family Fun Weekend, May 29th – 31st and the Father’s Day Steam Tea specials on June 20th.
