The Well-being Committee at Sun Chemical’s Midsomer Norton site have continued their charitable work this year by donating a selection of Christmas presents to the Genesis Trust, who help a number of homeless people in and around Bath.
Members of the committee wrapped and delivered around forty presents which will be given out to those visiting the Genesis Lifeline drop-in centre.
The centre, which has been based at Bath Abbey for four years, often hosts fifty visitors a day. Many of them are rough sleepers or are vulnerable people, due to mental illness or loneliness. The centre provides hot drinks, a homely atmosphere and staff and volunteers are on hand to offer support and help with complex issues
relating to homelessness, addiction and benefits.
Visitors can also access clean clothing, boots, tents and sleeping bags. Lifeline is a haven for many individuals stuck in a cycle of poverty, addiction, homelessness and despair. On December 19th, the centre moved to a new premises at the Friends’ Meeting house in York Street, Bath.
Genesis Trust’s CEO, Paul Solly, said: “We are really overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and businesses at this time of year. Sun Chemical staff have put a lot of thought into their parcels for homeless people and their gifts will bring a lot of joy to those who receive them. Many of those we help are estranged from their families or feel very alone and the fact that people care about them means a lot at Christmas time.”
Tracy Hunt, from Sun Chemical said: “The Well-being Committee formed in 2015 with the aim to help work with their neighbours and offer local support within the community.
Following the success of last year’s appeal to fill a shoebox with essential items to give to someone facing homelessness this holiday season, Sun Chemical employees have collected 43 parcels, some donated by the general public, to donate to the Genesis Trust. Before each parcel was wrapped, they also included food vouchers to enable the individual to obtain a hot drink or hot meal at the Sunday Centre.”
If anyone would like to offer donations to the Genesis Trust, they are always in need of Size 7–10 men’s walking style boots or trainers and men’s jeans, size waist 28-34. For more information about the organisation, and how you can help, visit: www.genesistrust.org.uk/
