Last Saturday saw the return of Paulton’s annual Party in the Park, with over 2,000 local residents turning out to celebrate and enjoy the beautiful English summer, in the heart of the village.

Supported by Paulton Parish Council and The Ralph and Irma Sperring Charity, the party drew large crowds, with a full programme of events for everyone to enjoy.

The day was kicked off by George Batchelar, who opened the event as Chairman of the organising committee, and saw a variety of musical and sporting performances take to the stage. Compered by Ashley Byers, some of the acts to take part included Paulton Infant School with a Dance Umbrella performance, Stardust Majorettes, Paulton Concert Band, Becky Woodland’s Boogie Bounce Xtreme and Jamie Woodland’s martial arts display.

There was also the chance for residents to visit the local fire station, have guided tours of the tower at Holy Trinity Church and peruse the many stalls and classic cars that had gathered in the park.

Organiser and Paulton Councillor, Liz Hardman, said: “It is fantastic to see so many local people turn out to this community event, and I am so pleased that the weather was so good for the entire day! Although there is a committee of us that organise Party in the Park, it’s worth mentioning the amount of hard work that George Batchelar puts in to make this event happen. Without him, it wouldn’t be half as good as it is!”

Local residents were also able to enjoy refreshments that were provided by Greg and Kelly from The Lamb Inn, who built a great temporary bar; Dave Wilcox made sure no one went hungry with his D&M catering van, and there was even the chance for ice cream from Fabrizzias.

Paulton Parish Councillor, Grant Johnson, added: “It is great to see so many different people, from all walks of life, turn up and enjoy this fantastic community event. It goes without saying that the organising committee deserve a huge thank you for putting on the event.”

The organising committee for 2019 were George Batchelar, Liz Hardman, Hugh Warren, John Bull, Bernard Newton and Anne Lyons.
