SWALLOW, a local charity that supports people with learning disabilities, is delighted to announce its team of 21 runners who ran the Bath Half on Sunday, 13th March 2016 raised an amazing £5,743!
Jess Robinson, from the charity, said: “It was a beautiful day, with near perfect running conditions. The most important part for me was the wonderful atmosphere amongst our runners, supporters and volunteers. We are so proud of team SWALLOW and the money raised will help many of our members’ dreams come true.”
The top individual fundraiser was Andrew Mobbs, a volunteer at the charity, who went to great lengths to gain sponsorship, including a Quiz Night at Mardons Social Club on Friday, 22nd April which raised £324. His final total was an amazing £1,205, which meant he was awarded the prize of a hamper full of handmade items, made by SWALLOW members.
Andrew said: “Last year, I raised £645 and wanted to at least match it, if not beat it – I was just short of doubling it with my final total being £1,205. Mission accomplished! Running this is a huge achievement, as I’m not a runner and you feel so accomplished because you’ve proved to yourself you can do it and also because you’ve done it for a worthwhile cause.”
The money raised via this year’s Half Marathon will go
towards funding vital services for the charity’s members. SWALLOW directly helps over 100 local people with learning disabilities. If you are a keen fundraiser and would like to support SWALLOW, please email: jessrobinson@swallowcharity.
