Residents might have noticed a new shop that appeared on Paulton High Street back in January, as it welcomed the opening of The Dog Groomery. The shop was opened by businesswoman and Midsomer Norton resident, Kate Geernaert, who, after doing extensive training with Canine Design, based in Evercreech, decided to set up her own dog grooming parlour.

Kate says: “I’ve been so lucky already with the support from local dog owners and thank the local community for such a warm welcome. I can’t wait to meet more furry friends and their humans this summer, now I can operate the salon and shop fully as Covid restrictions seem to be lifting.”

“I welcome all dogs, large and small, young and old and full or mixed breeds. The Dog Groomery is quiet and relaxed, but offers lots of services, wash and drys, full clips and trims, nail clipping and teeth cleaning. The Salon shop is growing and will soon offer doggy pick and mix treats and lots of wonderful toys and gifts.”

Paulton Councillor Grant Johnson recently took Casper, his Golden Retriever, for a much-needed trim. He said: “It’s fantastic to see new businesses setting up on our little High Street. After long periods of lockdowns it’s great to see someone like Kate have the enthusiasm to start a new business in what are extremely difficult times. Casper is getting on a bit now, but Kate took such great care of him, and he came out looking as handsome as ever. It’s so important to support our local shops as we move out of lockdown and I’m sure residents would join me in wishing Kate a bright and happy future.”

To celebrate six months of being open, Kate has decided to run a dog photo competition for residents and customers to enter with lots of prizes up for grabs. The idea is simple, with The Dog Groomery wanting to see your cutest or funniest doggy photo to be in with a chance of winning the amazing prizes.

1st Prize: dog hamper from The Dog Groomery Shop worth over £150, 2nd Prize: The Dog Groomery Pamper vouchers worth £100, 3rd Prize: Your dog’s photo on a cushion, mug, and keyring worth £40, plus more runner-up prizes.

To enter, follow The Dog Groomery on Facebook or Instagram and then send a direct message with your photo entry, full name, email address, the dog’s name, age, and breed. The Prize winners will be decided by The Dog Groomery’s own judging panel, with winners announced at 7pm on 30th June on their social media pages.
