Following a Sri Lankan evening, a Sunday Lunch and a Rock ‘n’ Roll evening, the fundraising activities have continued with the Village Summer Fair at Camerton Community Hall.
On a glorious sunny day, there were activities for everyone, such as skittles, coconut shy, splat the rat and much more.
A special treat this year was a visit from a Dalek, brought along by its creator, Jeff Evans. It was a great treat for the children, who had fun in operating the machine, and it brought in much-needed funds for the Hall. Thanks, Jeff. Kingswood and Hanham Brass Band provided the music all afternoon, and what a professional outfit they are.
Again, Janine Veal’s Avon Dance Academy put on a superb show, where a packed hall applauded every dance put on, by five-year-olds to teenagers. Janine is a big supporter of the Hall, using it every week.
Another first for the annual Fair was the fantastic display put on by the majorette group, Farenheit. Recently, the group gained three Firsts in a competition at Weston-super-Mare, and last year, the girls competed in Holland, where they came a very commendable second. In October, they are off to Croatia to try and reach Gold. The group are always looking for new sponsors. There was also another treat for the children (and some adults), as the local firemen brought along one of their fire engines. Local dog trainer, Pippa, put the dogs through their places to win the sought-after Rosettes.
The hard-working hall committee would like to thank the many stall-holders that came along, and the helpers who helped raise much-needed funds to keep the upgrading of this fantastic village asset ongoing.
Sorry to have to talk about the winter months in the middle of this sunny weather! On Friday, 19th October, in the Hall at 7 p.m., is the first of the monthly Winter Talks, given by local bird man, John Arnold – his talk being about ‘The Birds of the Cam Valley’. There are some great talks organised for the winter months – look out for dates. Please, all you villagers, come along and support the committee, they are doing it for you!
