Waterside Carnival Club, originally based at the Clarks Factory, Westfield, no longer takes part in the carnival circuit, due to a lack of members, but continues to raise money by working at the Glastonbury Festival each year. Various good causes benefit from the monies raised.
This week, the club presented a defibrillator to the local community in recognition of all their support over the last four decades. The box is donated in memory of the late Mr Larry Dando, a lifelong member of the Waterside Carnival Club.
Receiving the defibrillator on behalf of the local community, Chair of Westfield Parish Council, Cllr Geoff Fuller, said: "This is a great asset to the community and huge thanks go to the Waterside Carnival Club for all their work in fundraising, purchasing and commissioning the defibrillator – to Simon Jones of L&F Jones and the Elm Tree Pharmacy for their help in the siting of the box and to Mark Denning of AF Denning for the installation and electrical works."
The new defibrillator cost £2,500. In the event of an emergency, an ambulance would be rung for, with the code given via phone to activate the defibrillator, which gives spoken instruction to the user.
Westfield Parish Councillor, Robin Moss, said: "The installation of the defibrillator has been a great example of the community working together. Thanks to Waterside Carnival Club for their generous donation and working alongside Westfield Parish Council and local businesses, who gave their time and expertise for free, we have achieved something really positive for Westfield."
