There will be great excitement as the Tour of Britain, our biggest international cycling race, will be coming to Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Peasedown St John and the Chew Valley area on Tuesday, 4th September.

Competitors will be setting off on the 78-mile Bristol stage of the race on this day, leaving the Downs in Bristol, travelling towards Clevedon, Yatton, Axbridge, through Cheddar Gorge, to Midsomer Norton and Radstock before returning through Peasedown St John and around Chew Valley Lake and Chew Magna.

Last year the race came through the city of Bath, but this time our area will witness the race first hand, with cyclists having to take on the Mendip Hills as part of this year’s challenge, which will be the third leg of the tour of the UK. Paul Myers, Mayor of Midsomer Norton, says the event will be warmly welcomed: “It’s fantastic news that the Tour of Britain will be coming through Midsomer Norton later this year.

“I’m sure local residents will be out in force to support the competitors,” he said.
