Radstock Town Councillors voted to find £500 at the October meeting on Monday evening to help the weekly FOOD Club (Food On Our Doorstep), which provides local families with a range of affordable food, including fresh vegetables, meat, dairy and store cupboard ingredients. All of the produce is from Fareshare, who redistribute food from manufacturers to people who need it most. It supports families with children under eleven years old.

Cllr Chris Dando said that he was concerned with the Universal Credit cut, originally introduced to help people navigate their way through the pandemic, demand was likely to rise on the local service and that more supplies would be needed.

Speaking at the Town Council’s October meeting on Monday evening, he proposed the money be found. He said: “More supplies are needed, especially food that doesn’t require heating up, as, with energy costs, people cannot afford it. It is a devastating indictment of the state of our nation and this service is massively needed in our town.”

Councillors voted unanimously to find the extra funding for the club, which meets weekly at Radstock Children’s Centre on Fridays between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm.

There is an annual membership of £1, with weekly food for £3.50. For more information, email: [email protected] or telephone: 01225 39 6004.
