£300,000 of funding has been transferred by B&NES for work on the Town Park project, following the approval of a Masterplan.
Clearing work has continued at the huge site behind the Somer Centre at Gullock Tyning, with long grass and brambles cleared before the winter sets in.
The ground cover along the riverbank has revealed a whole new view – with the idea being to create the beginnings of a new walk along the River Somer.
Tree planting is expected to take place, the first being an oak tree donated by Midsomer Norton Townswomen’s Guild to commemorate the centenary of Votes for Women in 2018.
Last week, Town Councillors voted to approve a further £5,000 for work on the project, which will add to the £20,000 already approved for the masterplan.
The second batch of money will appoint a contractor for the detailed design work, with a tender process to begin in January.
So far, consultation events and meetings have been completed, including printed materials, at a cost of £3,840. Steering Group Meetings are underway and so far have cost £800, with a further day a month needed from the Environment and Design Projects Team at B&NES.
Delivering phase one and refining the Town Park Masterplan and Management Plans is thought to cost around £17,000. Site surveys may cost up to £5,000.
