Road closures: one for Mendip drivers over the next fortnightAssociate director, Jesse Briton of Somerset-based theatre company Wassail Theatre, asks what happens when a community is in crisis? When tragedy is moments away and when your loved ones are nowhere to be seen, who do you ask for help?
Somerset’s Wassail Theatre Company has been working closely with the people, communities and organisations impacted by the 2013/14 floods of the Somerset Levels to create ‘Reclaimed’.
In 2017, Wassail Theatre Company’s shows were ‘Rex the King’ and sell-out production, ‘The Somerset Charabanc’, which was a five-mile theatrical tour of the Somerset Levels, with audience members sitting on a 1920s miller’s cart pulled by two Suffolk Punch hoses, while ‘Rex the King’ was well received throughout pubs, village halls and theatres throughout Somerset.
‘Reclaimed’ has been made possible by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, as well as South Somerset District Council, Sedgemoor District Council, North Petherton Town Council and through Take Art’s ‘Barn’ programme. Wassail is also grateful for support from The Brewhouse Theatre, The Redbrick Building, Glastonbury and Moorland & District Village Hall.
