Midsomer Norton Town Council received an update on the Town Hall from Project Manager Nicola Dyer at their Council Meeting on Monday, 5th June (last night).

Information was provided on developments at the Town Hall project, as Nicola told the Council: "The most significant development to date is the floor is now in."

The project is still running behind schedule, Phase One of which was due to finish at the end of May. Nicola explained how there had been challenges with the development, echoing a set-back for the works completion: "In terms of programme, we were initially, back when the contract started in October, targeting an end date of May... Thanks to various challenges that have arisen during the build, this is not going to be complete.

"We are thinking more likely September time, but again, a really important milestone within that is the structural steel should be in place by mid-July and that is the point at which there will be safe access again to the rest of the building."

In terms of finance for the project, Nicola reported they are still within budget. A cost review was carried out in March, with updated estimates, a schedule of works, and repricing of every item. Nicola said: “In terms of the expenditure for Phase 1, we are still reporting that we are in budget and that some of the contingency is left.

"We’ve done an awful lot of the opening up works now which means there is a good level of certainty but with historic buildings, obviously we are always cautious."
