Happy days are here again at Midsomer Norton Station with train rides, new picnic tables and a newly refurbished buffet car.

Visitors have already enjoyed riding trains up the line and the ‘Wickham Wednesdays’ riding in the Wickham Trolley, have gone down a storm.

Families are very welcome at the station and volunteers have organised a special day for Father’s on June 20th when there will be driver taster sessions as well as rides for all the family.

Gardens volunteer, Gail Coleshill, said: “Over the Bank holiday weekend I visited with my family and the children really enjoyed a compartment to themselves. Their favourite moment was the starting jerk when Joyce the Sentinel sets off!

“Everyone at the station is now getting excited and gearing up for the visiting Kitson steam engine for the July Gala Weekend. So come and join us!”

The visiting steam engine is called Austin 1 and is an 0-6-0 saddle tank steam locomotive built by Kitsons & Co. of Leeds in 1932 for the Austin Motor Company at Longbridge. It worked there for nearly forty years before being purchased for preservation by a group of enthusiasts at the Llangollen Heritage Railway in Denbighshire, North Wales in 1973.

It will be transported to Midsomer Norton Station in time for the steam Gala on the weekend of July 2nd to 4th. Details are on the website.
