Water was the theme for Messy Church at St John’s Church in Chilcompton this month. We learnt that without it we couldn’t survive!

All our craft activities helped us to explore the different ways that we use water and just how important it is to our everyday lives.

We had great fun exploring which things would float and which things would sink. We made and floated boats, played snap with sea creature cards and used edible blue Jelly (especially created by one of our church members!) for a Jesus walking on the water activity.

Some wonderful artwork was created with paints made from frozen water.

The highlight for many was our beach in a bottle sensory activity; each child using a combination of sand, shells, greenery and carrot fish to create a beach that they could take home with them. Blue water helped create a lovely beach effect as the children tilted their bottles.

Our story time began with floating and sinking eggs. Then we talked about how Jesus did something amazing – He walked on water! By the end of the session, we had all learnt how important it is to keep our eyes on Jesus.

Sometimes life is tough – there will be sad times, there will be storms. We can feel like we are going through rough waters, so we all need Jesus to help us through.

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, 24th February, our theme will be Earth, Stars, and Space – where we will be making erupting volcanoes!
