THE WESTlocal X91 and 99 bus services in the Chew Valley are set to undergo changes, with new journeys, updated routes, and revised schedules designed to improve connections for local residents and communities.

Local residents in the Chew Valley can now check out the new WESTlocal X91 timetable, ahead of changes taking effect from 31 August.

The service between Ubley and Bristol city centre will run on Saturdays for the first time, including evening journeys, and an extra daytime journey Monday to Friday will bring the total to four return journeys per day. The X91 also connects with Parson Street and Bristol Temple Meads railway stations, providing a direct option for travel between the Chew Valley and Bristol.

The 99 bus service will be streamlined from next week, so that the villages where people have been using it most will have a more frequent service. It will now run from Ubley to Bishops Sutton via Compton Martin, West and East Harptree, and then in a loop to Pensford, Chew Stoke and Chew Magna, before returning to Ubley.

Evening journeys will run between Ubley and Pensford via Chew Stoke. It will no longer run on Friday evenings and on bank holidays.

Phil Collins, from Chew Valley CIC Sustainable Transport Partnership for the 99 and X91, said: “As well as meeting local people's travel needs, these buses will support local businesses by bringing more people out to the Chew Valley, allowing leisure and tourism to flourish.”

Jason Freeman, from bus operator The Big Lemon, said: "These schemes are in their last phase of WESTlocal funding, and the changes being made are in response to passenger feedback. We hope this encourages more people to use these community-led bus services."

This forms part of wider changes to WESTlocal buses, designed and run by communities, which are funded through the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority’s Bus Grant from UK government until March 2026.
