Visitors to Haycombe Cemetery will notice changes being made to the entrance gateway, as Council workers begin improvements.
The gateway into the cemetery is currently only wide enough for one car and can become congested, meaning that funeral cars are made to wait on the road outside for exiting traffic to pass.
The improvements will involve dismantling and relocating two of the stone pillars which have been at the cemetery since 1937. This will enable workers to widen the gateway.
One of the pedestrian access routes will also be changing, with a new gate which will lead to a pathway inside the boundary walls. During the course of the work, there will be single lane access and the Council contractors will be making efforts to keep noise and disruption to a minimum. The work is expected to be completed by Christmas.
