Plans are being developed to revamp the public conveniences in the Gullock Tyning Adventure Play Park in Midsomer Norton.
The plans being developed by Writhlington Leisure include a seasonal catering outlet, improved accessible toilet with baby change facilities and an affordable bike hire facility. The overall aim is to not only provide more facilities for local residents, but improve the existing poor toilet provision.
Writhlington Leisure took over responsibility for the toilet building from B&NES Council in July 2015, together with the sports centre, play park and skate park and have already invested over £800,000 on improving the leisure centre facilities.
Due to their poor condition, the current toilet building will be closed whilst detailed plans for their remodelling are drawn up. However, park users and members of the public will still be able to use the newly refurbished conveniences, now available in the foyer of the adjacent Sports Centre and which are open for longer hours than the current public toilets. A sign will be put on the current toilet building directing park users to the conveniences in the Sports Centre.
Matt Wise, Director of Leisure for Writhlington Trust, said: “We are committed to continuing to improve the facilities at Gullock Tyning, including the public convenience, for the benefit and enjoyment of local people. The existing facilities have not been fit for purpose for a number of years and will close at the end of the month whilst plans are produced for their redevelopment. Local people deserve better facilities, so to that end we will provide free access to our newly refurbished toilets within the sports centre during this time. By doing this, we can provide better facilities and longer opening hours. Once reopened, the new remodelled building will not only provide cleaner, more modern public conveniences, but will also improve the appearance of the park and allow us to offer refreshments to families using the play area and skate park.”
The Trust hopes to publish further details of the plans for the toilet building in the coming months.
