Writhlington School is delighted to be celebrating a fantastic set of results by its students in their GCSEs with the return of formal exams this summer. We are incredibly proud of all our students who have put in so much hard work during these unprecedented times. The students have achieved 82% at grade 9 - 4 in English and 71% at grade 9 - 4 in maths. We can also see that our students have made great progress since joining the school with many students achieving top grades in the 9 - 7 range across all subjects in the school.
Keith Howard, the headteacher said: “We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted period. Our teachers have worked tirelessly in school and remotely to ensure our students are all able to progress onto further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future. After the tragic event earlier this summer it was great for the community to come together and celebrate these results.”
As always there were many exceptional performances from individual students, among those with impressive performances achieving all top end grades in the range 9 to 7 are: Lauren Blachford, Sophie Dickson, Layla Haynes, Emily Jefferyes, Zachary Lowe, Ben Magner, Sophia Major, Joseph Markey, Grace Morris, Faye Rigby, Alexandra Rowlatt and Lily-May Tanner.
As well as achieving top grades this year many of our Year 11 students have made significant progress from their starting point and exceeded their target grades as a result of hard work. There are too many to mention but to name a few of our top performers in terms of progress: Woody Taylor, Willow Hughes, Caitlin Hannums, Mia Smith, Oscar Davies, Ryder Sharman, Bethany Hunt, Billy Chapman, Alfie Lodder and Freya Jefferies. We of course want to congratulate all of our students.
This year’s cohort have arguably had the biggest challenge with much of their courses being studied remotely. They have been an excellent year group who have done all that we have asked of them and done themselves, their parents and Writhlington School proud with their achievements. We’re grateful for all the parental support we’ve had in supporting them. On behalf of all the staff, we wish them every success on the next stage of their journey.
We look forward to welcoming many of our Year 11 students into our Sixth Form in September and wish those that are continuing their journey at college or onto an apprenticeship the very best of luck.
