A local resident has written to our publication about a planning application on the White Post Site. Read their comments in the letter below.

New housing often has to be approved because ‘everyone has to live somewhere.’

However some developments are poorly located and have consequences that are too serious to be ignored.

This is just one of those plans.

1. It takes advantage of BANES expenditure in Midsomer Norton (in particular Silver Street B3355) without making safety provision for roads in Mendip. In particular the road through Chilcompton and onwards towards Radstock which is used as a racetrack and more seriously the B3355 from MSN Rugby club to the B3139 which is used by many pedestrians (from both sides of the border), is not wide enough for buses to pass safely and still has no pavement.

2. Overburdening facilities in Midsomer Norton is a serious issue, but even more serious is the increase in danger to all road users. Ignoring this will result in serious injury or death.

3. The BANES planning portal makes provision for comments from affected Mendip residents, yet the same courtesy is not extended by Mendip towards BANES residents. Effectively therefore those most affected are not consulted.
