Roadworks are a bane for every motorist, but for one local resident, enough was enough after their trip to Radstock on the weekend.

Attempting  to go east through the centre of Radstock on Saturday Morning last (4th March) reminded me of summer Saturdays long ago when road traffic came to a standstill to allow heavy express trains to thunder through the town.

Just like old times there were queues up towards Clandown and Wells Hill, along up the Frome road, but this time the culprit were road works near Victoria Hall with three way lights!

Whether this was for gas, water, electricity or telephone or maybe the current work of broadband cable installation I don’t know, but the scene was causing frustration on all sides with traffic unable to turn at the double mini roundabout!

Question – is it really necessary, at weekends especially, to down tools and leave such roadworks incomplete as has been the case in the last year in the Somer Valley towns? Surely the Council’s Highways Department need to take a tougher line with offenders and issue fines for non-emergency work which is left idle causing inconvenience?
