A Paulton resident wrote in regarding the deferred homes on the White Post Site. Read their response below.

I understand from the article that these homes will not comply with new green planning policy.  Meaning that they must be carbon neutral in every respect.

I am hoping that this means that not only must they create their own electricity, be heated by heat pumps, and absorb their own waste, they will each have a garden large enough to grow food for a family and have at least three off street parking places with charging points for electric cars.

They should also have rooms big enough that you can pass each other in comfort without climbing over the furniture.

The current practice of building a so called “family home” with zero garden and one parking space on roads barely wider than pavements does nothing for the environment and leaves people living like battery hens. Puts me in mind of the old Malvina Reynolds’ song; “Little boxes, little boxes, they`re all made of tiky taky and they all look just the same”.

One day someone will wake up and understand that to keep on building more and more houses, it is imperative to build the amenities that are needed to go with them.  Like Doctor and Dentist surgeries, a pharmacy, shops and a reliable public transport service.

These are the things that Paulton needs over and above more houses.  Until these services are provided all current building projects should remain in abeyance.
