This was not the best game of the season for Welton, as both teams slugged it out in midfield and goal chances were few and far between.
After the bad weather of the winter, it was a bright and sunny spring afternoon that greeted the players as they took to the pitch on Chippenham Town's ground.
The first action of the game saw a deep free kick from James Moon flash across the Chippenham six-yard box. Then determined work by Anthony Conradi won Welton a corner, which was met at the far post by Carl Stone, but he headed over the bar. The home side then went close when the dangerous Mark Robinson headed over. Robinson's
determination was causing the Welton defence some concern.
Good play by Tom Smith saw him set up Conradi, but his shot was gathered by the Park keeper, Charlie Heydon. Further good play for Welton, this time by Dan Cottle, saw him find Conradi, who broke through the static Park defence only to shoot wide of the target.
As half-time approached, Cottle tested the keeper with a good effort and at the other end, Welton keeper, Andy King, palmed away a rasping shot from Mark Nolan.
The second half began with both sides pressing for the all important opening goal. Chris Peck and Andy Keen combined well and found Conradi in space, but his shot went wide of the target. Robinson launched a long-range effort that didn't test King.
The game was becoming very static, with neither side taking control. The highlight of the second half was a
terrific thunderbolt of a shot from thirty yards from Tom Smith that stung the hands of Chippenham keeper,
Heydon, as he saved it at the second attempt.
At the other end, Phillip Baker was set up and with the Welton goal at his mercy, he shot wide. In the end it seemed that both sides settled for a point in a game that won't last long in the memory of the travelling Green Army.
