Timsbury Cricket Club move into 2015 with significant changes at the helm of the club. Austin Sage has taken over from Andrew Jeffery, as Chairman, while his nephew, Mark Sage, has stood down after twelve years as First Team Skipper to be replaced by Stephen Clothier.
The changes were endorsed at the club's AGM, which was held in the clubroom. In his final speech as Chairman, Jeffery looked back on a disappointing season, which had seen the club relegated to the Bristol and District Senior Division. He thanked Sage for all his efforts over the years which had seen many highs as well as lows, with the pinnacle seeing the club reach Lords in 2006 in the National Village Final. Sage had been the longest-serving Captain of the club for more than fifty years. Jeffery said that there was now the chance to stabilise the club in the Bristol and District League as the club moved into a new era.
The outgoing Chairman paid tribute to groundsman, Eric Nott, who had finished second in the league standings for groundsmen, but who had decided to stand down. He said it would leave the club with some big decisions to make as the way to go in the preparation of the pitch. He thanked Ben Curtis, who had combined his duties as Treasurer with that of Second Team Captain, and Ashley Davis, who had spent many hours trying to get a Third Team together. Jeffery outlined the activities of the youth sides and said that he felt this was a crucial element in the future prosperity of the club.He said: "It has been an honour and a privilege to be Chairman of the club. I wish the club every success in the future and hope that it continues to make progress."
All three of last season's Captains expressed what a difficult time it had been. Sage said that the First Team had struggled with availability, which had been reflected in the results. He felt the bowling and fielding had stood up to the task, but highlighted a lack of runs as the main reason for relegation. Curtis said that the Seconds had won just two league games, but the emergence of the youngsters had been encouraging. Davis said that it had been very difficult putting out sides for the Thirds, but that they had managed to reach the end of the season.
Presentations were made to Secretary, Mike Passingham, and Mark Sage for all their efforts for the club. Sage was also congratulated on being enrolled in the Bath Cricket Club Hall of Fame.
