Last Saturday, Cam Valley Tennis Club opened its doors and welcomed its members back with two new initiatives being launched: the new courts and the just completed practice wall.
The courts were re-laid last Autumn and look
absolutely wonderful. At a cost of £26,000, funding came from the club’s sinking fund and money raising initiatives over the years.
Covid restrictions have made use of them very
limited, but now, since May 17th, the club can be more relaxed about numbers
allowed to play.
The just completed
practice wall is the latest addition to the club’s facilities and will help players of all ages, both senior and junior, to improve their tennis skills.
It was funded with donations from Paulton Parish Council, the Sperring Trust, the Justgiving crow funding site and a donation from Paulton Councillor Liz Hardman’s Ward Councillors’ Empowerment Fund. Opening both facilities, Cllr Hardman, said: “I am delighted to have been asked to open these excellent facilities, which will improve tennis for local residents. We owe a huge thank you to Brian Wessell, his committee and members who have worked so hard to make this happen.”
An exciting timetable has now been drawn up for the coming months. On June 5th there will be a Saturday Pay & Play launch, information which has been sent to local schools.
The annual Summer Camps are scheduled for the week commencing 26th July (to be confirmed) and always prove popular. Another rather important open day event is lined up for Sunday, 15th August when the club are hosting ex Davis Cup players who have agreed to run some coaching and exhibition play as a fund raising initiative for the club.
