Camvale Tennis Club, in Paulton, held a Wooden Racket Tournament on Saturday, 26th September with the aim of raising money for Henry Ford.

Members rolled back the years last Saturday by holding a ‘Wooden Racket Mixed Doubles Tournament’. Using old style original wooden rackets and playing in predominantly white tennis kit, as well as featuring some stars of the past, e.g. Billie Jean-King, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graff, Bjorn Borg and a few players from the 1920s.

Blessed with beautiful sunshine, home made cakes, a glass (or two) of Pimms and a large number of supporters, the competition was a great success with lots of close, evenly matched games with Alison Walker and Ryan Harris coming out on top. The real winner though was the Henry Ford Trust, as the £225 raised during the day was to help Henry Ford, a local Midsomer Norton lad, aged eleven, who has Spastic Dipleglia Cerebral Palsy and Nystagmus. Henry and his mum, Polly, were present during the afternoon and were delighted with the outcome, saying that the much needed funds would go towards further treatment for Henry, as his parents and friends strive to give Henry a better quality of life.
