Team Captains from Farrington Golf Club are launching their partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support as their chosen charity for the next year.
The three Captains decided to co-ordinate their charity efforts, after their Captain-Elect for 2012–13 was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and received support from Macmillan.
Members and guests of Farrington Golf Club are set for a bumper year of activities as Club Captain, Clive Stilwell, Ladies' Captain, Sharman Bradshaw, and Seniors' Captain, Bob McKeegan-Brown, plan a series of exciting events. These include the Three Captains' Charity Day on Sunday, 4th August, with golf competitions open to members and non-members, as well as many stalls, children's games and entertainment, raffle, live music and refreshments. In addition to this special event, the Captains are planning to take part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in September, as well as running evening events in the club's impressive venue.
Having raised more than £12,000 for Midsomer Norton- based charity, SWALLOW, in 2012, the team are aiming to make even more of a difference this year for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Club Captain, Clive Stilwell said: "We are delighted to be involved with Macmillan, not just because their cause is so close to our hearts, with one of our most well-known club members being directly affected, but also because we can make a difference to a really important charity whose work touches so many people. We hope many members and non-members will be able to become involved through the plans we have for the coming golfing year."
Clive continued: "We've got big plans for our Captains' Charity Day, but we simply couldn't hold this fantastic event, year after year, without the help of local businesses sponsoring the holes and donating raffle prizes. If you don't fancy playing golf yourself, there are still lots of ways to get involved and help make a difference to people living with cancer."
Local Macmillan Fundraising Manager for Bath and North East Somerset, Sadie Moore, said: "Raising funds is vital to support services for local people affected by cancer and we are so grateful and excited to have the support of Farrington Golf Club this year.
"Cancer is the toughest fight many of us will have to face, but you don't have to go through it alone. Macmillan can be there every step of the way, providing emotional, practical and medical support," Sadie added.
